If you are booked for your birth at Westmead Private Hospital, it helps to know what the maternity unit offers. The details below come from the hospital.
Birthing suites
The birthing suites are large, modern rooms with their own ensuite and shower. Each suite has space for your partner or support person to stay overnight and take part in your care during labour. There are seven birthing suites in total.
Maternity ward
The maternity ward has 46 private rooms. Every room lets your support person stay overnight, free of charge, so they can be part of caring for your baby. The ward also has a women's only infant feeding support centre, an education centre, a bathing centre, and a rooftop garden.
Eight of the rooms are larger parenting suites. These come at an extra cost and are subject to availability. If you would like one, you can ask the hospital staff when you are admitted.
Special Care Nursery
The Special Care Nursery is a Level 2 nursery. It provides extra care if your baby needs it. If a baby is born early or unwell and needs intensive care, the hospital can arrange transfer to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit without delay.
Westmead Private Hospital is next to both Westmead Hospital and The Children's Hospital at Westmead. This means patients can reach higher-level (tertiary) care if it is needed.

Gynaecology
Gynaecological surgery at Westmead
Dr Mahadik also does gynaecological surgery at Westmead Private Hospital. This includes keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery. It also includes surgery through the tummy or the vagina. The type of surgery depends on what you need. She talks it through with you first.
